A Refreshing Way to Edit A YouTube Video
Fast cuts don't always instill trust in an audience. Sometimes slowing down helps.
Happy New Year!
It’s been a couple of weeks, but let’s hop into a new video break down. We’re going to start off the year with a video that is the antithesis of what most people see as the meta on YouTube right now.
Instead of quick cuts, lots of graphics, and more spectacle than story, TheCottageFairy uses long, drawn out scenes to intentionally force the viewer to slow down and enjoy each shot.
The video this week, is just one of her many other videos. Each video is a testament to her life ideology of slow living. It shows her ability to capture beautiful shots for each scene she includes and the slow pacing provides a refreshing viewing experience compared to most other YouTube content.
There are a couple of things TheCottageFairy does differently than most YouTubers in an edit:
Doesn’t cut out silence, but will cut to get to a point faster
Focuses on the shot itself, not trying to find a way to keep you in the video
TheCottageFairy trusts her audience to want to learn more about her life and share in her experience. The edits follow this trust and knowledge of her audience. She knows that her audience is going to stay for longer because they’re looking to be an observer in her experience in a small town.
Beyond the basic visuals, the music choice adds a lot to the video. It makes it feels cozy and magical. Instead of heavy pop, synth, or rock, TheCottageFairy, intentionally chooses music that makes her video feel more like you want to watch under a blanket near a fire.
Music can be very difficult to find, but it seems for TheCottageFairy, she’s found a style that evokes the emotion that she wants. And that’s the key when looking for music: search for the emotion you want to evoke.
I quite enjoy TheCottageFairy’s videos and you will too. Check out her video below and I’ll see you next week. 😊
