Editing Music for Impact

This week we talk about making your music more impactful in your edits.

Audio is one of the most important things about your edit. Whether it's sound effects, music, or dialogue, your audio bed can make or break your video.

Today we're going to focus on music. Good music will generate an emotion in your audience. It'll tell the audience subconsciously the scene's tone.

Here are three ways you can add music to your edits to make the edit more impactful.

The Bare Scene.

The idea behind the bare scene is that you leave the whole scene without music. If you have been using music in most scenes up to this point, the lack of music will create a contrast that focuses your audience on the point or feeling you want them to have.

Make The Important Moment Shine.

You have an important moment coming up in your edit and you want to make the audience feel it. You can do that by stopping the music you're currently using, letting the bare scene shine. Or you can go from no music to starting music.

The key is the contrast. Once you create contrast, your audience will feel a higher impact on the scene. Especially if your music matches the tone of your edit.

Peaks & Valleys

Your scenes, transitions, and edits will have peaks and valleys same as your music. If you time your music to peak at an important moment, your music will create a heavier impact on the audience.

These three techniques can help you find ways to create more impactful moments in your edits with the aid of your music.

Until next week,
