What Creators Can Learn From Casey Neistat’s Journey

A Tip to Help You Edit Better

Take yourself out of your editing program by rendering out the video you are making and watching it. By watching it outside the editing program, you limit your ability to notice a mistake and edit it right away.

You are putting yourself in the shoes of your viewer. This will help you look at your edit as a whole instead of it's individual parts.

If you want to take it one step further, show it to someone who knows nothing about editing or content creation.

When I'm unsure about an edit, I show it to my fiance.

I watch for her reactions. If she doesn't seem to get a part or gets lost, I know that the edit needs more work.

It's like having my own test audience. Find your test audience.

A Video with Great Editing

A Resource to Make You A Better Creator

This week I could share a tool, but there was something even more important I felt I should share. Casey Neistat went on Rich Roll's podcast to talk about his experience as a creator. A couple of things really stood out to me:

  1. Creation style is really about what the creator wants. Casey wants to create on his own not with a team of people. A team of people for Casey is incredibly limiting. That may not be the case for you. You have to find what you enjoy as a creator.

  2. Make sure what you're creating is sustainable. Casey was creating daily vlogs and stopped because he ran out of content and his whole life was centered around making sure everything was interesting for a vlog. He's back to creating now and really focused on bringing a sense of balance and sustainability to his videos.
